Natural Remedies for Heartburn During Pregnancy

Heartburn happened when the lower stomach muscle (esophageal sphincter) which responsible for keeping stomach contents in their place has begin to relax or even leak. This action will let stomach acids to flow upwards back into esophagus, that’s why those fiery sensation came in.

Most of heartburn patients are pregnant women, which caused by two most reason:
  1. Hormone relaxin, this hormone make digestion process more slowly than usual and of course it will triggers more acid production on stomach.
  2. Baby grow create pressure on both stomach and esophageal sphincter and increased the opportunity of the acids being push to esophagus.

To get rid of the heartburn fast at home, a pregnant woman can follow these tips:

1. Eat Less, but more often
When women pregnant, capacity of the stomach are smaller than usual, that’s why if she’s eating too much can trigger the heartburn because the pressure on the abdomen, that’s why it’s recommended for pregnant woman eating mini meal six time a day, not like other person which eat three times a day and stop eating if you feel almost full. 

2. Eliminate Trigger Foods
If you already know which food can trigger your intensify heartburn, you must banish them from your diet menu, commonly food which can triggers heartburn are usually acidic foods like citrus fruits and tomatoes, fried foods, spicy foods, chocolate, coffee, carbonated beverages and alcohol.

3. Food Contain Plenty of Liquids
Food like soup, smoothies, yogurt, milkshakes and pudding can be first choice of food since those foods have liquids based texture; they can be digesting faster than solid foods, if you or your wife still wants to eat solid food, do an extra chew to make sure those solid food almost liquefied states.

4. Sleep Smart
Don’t going to bed for at least 3 hours after eat and put under your pillow some other extra pillow or some book to elevate your head and back, to make sure the stomach acids cannot reach esophagus.
